Protecting What’s Precious:

Pac Rim Brings SeaWorld’s Jellyfish Exhibit to Life

Engineering precision behind the systems that protect delicate marine life while supporting an immersive, world-class guest experience.

SeaWorld San Diego’s Jewels of the Sea exhibit invites guests into a mesmerizing underwater world—where graceful jellyfish drift through towering glass cylinders and cascading water features. Bringing that vision to life required more than artistry; it demanded engineering precision.

Pacific Rim Mechanical partnered with SeaWorld to design and install the mechanical systems that make the experience possible. From the temperature of the air to the chemistry of the water, every system was built to protect delicate marine species while providing a safe, comfortable environment for millions of annual visitors.

Challenge

Maintaining stable, controlled conditions for sensitive marine life inside a public exhibit is a balancing act of biology, mechanics, and guest experience. Each display required exact environmental parameters, including consistent temperature, humidity, and airflow—all within a space designed for high visitor traffic and visibility.

SeaWorld’s operational demands added another layer of complexity: the exhibit needed to be constructed within an active park, coordinated around daily operations, and held to strict safety and environmental standards. Every system had to perform flawlessly, quietly, and reliably.

Solution Delivered

Pac Rim collaborated closely with SeaWorld’s engineering, animal care, and construction teams to develop custom HVAC and plumbing systems tailored to the exhibit’s unique needs. Precision air distribution, water supply, and waste systems were designed to maintain ideal living conditions for the jellyfish while ensuring energy efficiency and ease of maintenance.

By sequencing installation around SeaWorld’s operating schedule and coordinating with multiple trades, Pac Rim minimized disruption and kept the project on schedule. The result is a fully integrated system that balances performance with sustainability—supporting both animal welfare and operational efficiency.
