Owner Biographies

Terry Broyles

President and Chief Executive Officer

As a third generation mechanical contractor, Terry has worked as a laborer, apprentice plumber, accountant, warehouseman, driver, project manager, sheet metal shop manager, salesman, operations manager and CEO.

In 1987, he founded Pacific Rim Mechanical with his father Jim Broyles, and Ted Keenan. The company has grown into the largest open shop mechanical contracting firm based in California. The company has enjoyed 21 profitable years while providing employment opportunities for over 500 craftsmen and women, managers, associates and friends. The company has thrived by developing a strong customer base and long term employment opportunities by treating everyone with honesty, integrity and respect.

Ted Keenan, P.E.

Vice President

Ted Keenan has led Pacific Rim Mechanical's Pre-Construction group since the company's inception in 1987. In addition to Design and Estimating, this department is the sales arm for the San Diego and Orange County Large Construction Divisions, providing budgeting and pre-construction services to Pacific Rim customers.

Prior to co-founding Pacific Rim, Ted spent three years as a sales engineer for a mechanical contracting firm and six years at the Trane Company. During his time at Trane he worked as an application engineer on a variety of HVAC equipment and the Trane's design software. His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa and Trane's six-month HVAC engineering training program.

Ted is a registered professional engineer in the State of California, a member and past President of the San Diego Chapter of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE), a member and past committee chair for the San Diego Chapter of ASHRAE, and has been a certified supervisor for the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB).

Eric Bader

Chief Financial Officer

Eric joined Pacific Rim Mechanical in January of 2003 after working for three years as the Regional VP of Finance for Encompass Services Corporation. This position included overseeing the Accounting, IT and HR functions for the $300 million western region of Encompass.

His current responsibilities include overseeing the functions of the Accounting, IT, Risk Management and HR departments, along with developing and maintaining the company's valued relationships with our banking, insurance and surety providers.

Eric's education includes a BS in Accounting and Information Systems from Cal State Northridge. He holds a CPA certificate issued by the California Board of Accountancy.

Joe Mucher, P.E.

Vice President

Joe began his HVAC career as a service technician at the age of 19. After attending Sacramento City College's Mechanical Electrical Technology program, Joe went to work for a residential mechanical contractor in Grass Valley, CA. He then relocated to San Diego to attend SDSU's mechanical engineering program.

During the summer months, Joe continued to work in the industry as a service technician for local companies including Refrigeration Engineering Co., Padre Mechanical and University Service Company. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University where he was President of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society.

Upon graduation in 1994, Joe joined Pacific Rim Mechanical's Pre-Construction group where he is now Vice President of the Pre-Construction division. He is currently responsible for the Sales, Estimating and Engineering Departments.

Joe is a registered professional engineer in the State of California and is a member of ISPE and ASHRAE.

Colin Cook, P.E.

Vice President

Colin joined Pacific Rim in 1998. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California. He started his career in Mechanical Engineering with TKG Consulting Engineers in San Diego specializing in laboratory, hi-tech and biotech design. Four years later he joined Unitech International Engineering and Contracting. At Unitech he managed a wide variety of design build projects in Southeast Asia including large government, acoustically sensitive entertainment, 5-6 star resort and ultra hi-end residential facilities.

As Vice President of Construction Operations, Colin is responsible for continuously improving our company and the value to our customers by providing leadership, planning, organization, coordination, and direction for all construction related activities. He is constantly striving to exceed the expectations of our customers and enhance the safety, opportunity and quality of life of our employees. Colin is a member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE), San Diego Chapter of ASHRAE and the American Welding Society (AWS).

Brian Turner

General Superintendent

Brian joined Pacific Rim Mechanical in May of 1993 as a Journeyman Insulator. He was promoted to Insulation Superintendent in 1994, where he was instrumental in developing an in-house insulation department. He acquired a C2 license in 1996 and was promoted to General Superintendent in 1999.

Brian is responsible for all field manpower, which includes sheet metal installers, plumbers, pipe fitters, high purity pipe fitters and insulators. He is also responsible for our tool and pre-fab shop employees, Detailing Department, and employee training and growth programs. Brian addresses customer\client concerns to assure resolution and maintain long-term positive relationships.

Steven DeStefano

VP Energy and Automation Services

Steven has been involved in the mechanical and controls industry for over 24 years. He has worked in several areas of the industry including service, controls, new construction, commissioning, and sales. He began his career on the east coast where he obtained a degree from New England Institute of Technology. After moving to California he started his own company before joining Pacific Rim Mechanical in 1992 as a Field Service Representative. He has held positions as Service Manager, Director of Technology, and Service Operations Manager, and is currently Vice President of Energy and Automation Services.

Steven works with our engineers to design open control systems, and energy saving solutions for our customers. He is a member of Echelon Open Systems Alliance, USGBC, is LEED certified, and is a board member for LonMark of Americas.

Mike Schatz, P.E.

Sr. Sales Engineer

Mike has been with Pacific Rim Mechanical since 2000 and an integral member of the Pre-Construction team from day one. His prior experience was with TKG Consulting Engineers as a lead design engineer.

Mike earned his MBA from the University of California at Davis and his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at San Diego. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of California, a member of several associations, and a LEED accredited professional.

John Heusner

Santa Ana Operations Manager

John hired on with Pac Rim in 1994. He spent four years in the field as an apprentice plumber, pipefitter, and process pipefitter. After working his way to Foreman he chose to leave the field to pursue an engineering degree. He moved into the estimating department and attended San Diego Mesa College. In 1999 he transferred to Cal Poly Pomona and to Pac Rim's Orange County office. He worked as an Assistant Project Manager while completing his studies and became a Project Manager upon graduation. He was promoted to Operations Manager in 2003 and became an owner in 2009.

John completed a plumbing apprenticeship program in 1997 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology in 2001. Over the years he has worked on a variety of large projects in markets including healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial, and commercial. He has a wide range of experience and is knowledgeable in all aspects of mechanical contracting.

Brent Koch

Special Projects Operations Manager

Brent came to Pacific Rim in 2002 as a Project Manager. He has a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction Management from Purdue University. He started his career in St. Louis with Condaire Incorporated, a Mechanical Contractor that specialized in unusual industrial piping projects. During his time with Condaire he worked on projects in the Automotive, Rail, Power, Food and Beverage, Education, Healthcare and Biotech industries. With Pacific Rim, Brent has built Research Facilities, 5 Star Resorts, Office Towers and Laboratories.

As Special Projects Operations Manager, Brent focuses his team on maintaining relationships with core clients, developing new clients and surpassing their expectations by building specialized, technical and fast turn around projects in all types of facilities.
